Akaashi Keiji is the only child to busy, high-functioning parents who thrust upon him high expectations, which he usually meets. Excelling both in academics and in extra-curriculars, he was given recommendations to two different, elite high schools. He played volleyball as a setter since middle school but wasn't as passionate until he watched a match with FukurΕdani Academy, one of the schools he was given a recommendation to. He later goes to study in said school.
In the following years, he played and excelled as much as he did in middle school, being in a college prep class, as well as being the team's official setter and vice-captain in his second year -- the only sophomore to be in the starting roster. In his third and final year in high school, he inherited the captain role.
Upon graduating, he was admitted into a top university in Tokyo on a merit-based scholarship to study law, like his parents had always planned for him. Tired of trying to fulfil their expectations, however, Keiji switches degrees from law to literature without their knowledge or consent, and has been estranged from his parents ever since (a touchy subject).
While in uni, he joined a literary circle and did freelance writing/editing. It's in his third year that he publishes a collection of poems called "Moonrise and Other Poems", which he follows up a year later with "The Sailor", both works garnering attention and praise.
He has worked as a creative writer at Dead Press Society, donning the pen name YΕ«gen, where his works have been the Editor's Choice for two consecutive publications. Keiji has also been the Chief Operating Officer of PLUMA Publishing Company.
He's currently residing in a loft apartment with his two clingy cats (Cloud and Marmalade) and a small white ball python snake (Loki). When overwhelmed with work, personal relationships, and city life, he stays at a beach house he owns in Nasugbu, Batangas.
He has two personal projects in line for the later half of the year, which he is currently working on to get published. He has taken a writing/editing consultancy on the side.
On his day-offs, he likes to frequent cafΓ©s and stay there for hours on end, reading and/or writing in his trusty leatherbound writing journal; or window-shop in bookstores near his place. He's also a big fan of onigiri, and is a frequent patron of Onigiri Miya. Although he doesn't play anymore, he still loves volleyball as a sport and would usually go as a spectator in important games to support his friends.
